Welcome, Bienvenida, Bienvenido, Bem-vinda, y Bem-vindo to the National Latinx Psychological Association (NLPA)! Our mission is to create a supportive professional community that advances psychological education, training, science, practice, and organizational change to enhance the health, mental health, and well-being of Latinx populations. One of our objectives is to generate, promote, and advance Latinx Psychology in the United States and globally. We attempt to do this by creating a place for the promotion and encouragement of efforts by professionals with a sustained commitment and dedication to Latinx Psychology. Our membership consists of a diverse body of researchers, practitioners, students, and educators who engage in NLPA’s various activities such as newsletters, journals, and the use of social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter in order to keep abreast of the field and to advocate for a wide variety of Latinx health and well-being issues.

As a member of NLPA you have several ways to become involved such as through our Special Interest Groups (SIGs) NLPA provides opportunities to learn about leadership and the multiple roles we need to take in order to meet the multiple needs of our communities. Many NLPA members have found mentors, mentees, collaborators, and resources to enhance their interests and work. During this year we will be re-designing our website in order to make it more engaging and informative with easier access to information, resources, scholarships, awards, career opportunities, and connections with the membership through our NLPA listserve and the various activities of NLPA. Additionally, NLPA will be offering Continuing Education Units through webinars on our website once it is re-designed. We frequently take the led as well as partner with other professional organizations in advocating issues that affect our various communities. Our annual conference provides an opportunity to engage and present our work and keep us up to date especially in this rapidly changing and challenging environment we face.

Our Association encourages the inclusion of cultural traditions, values, languages, the various types of arts, diversities, political climates, and customs in expanding and sharing our understanding of Latinx populations. Through this holistic and broad approach, we can better meet the overall mission of NLPA as well as expand our knowledge base regarding the intersections and various walks of life that is representative of the diversities among Latinx communities. My involvement in NLPA began at its inception in the 1970s and during its reorganization in 2002 while serving in the different activities of NLPA all which have helped me expand and appreciate the contributions of our varied Latinx communities. Our conferences provide an atmosphere to become more acquainted with the membership while expanding our knowledge base and understanding the many Latinx communities. As we move forward for this year’s conference, we hope to enhance our exchanges while maintaining the traditions expected from our past conferences.

There are many persons who have contributed to creating and sustaining NLPA and I am very humbled and honored to serve as NLPA’s 2021 President. I encourage you explore our organization and engage in the array of activities NLPA has to offer.

Con respeto y respeito,

Eduardo Morales, Ph.D.
