NLPA’s membership represents a rich diversity of national background, ethnic and cultural origin and political ideology. NLPA does not presume to speak for all Latinx psychologists or psychologists interested in Latino psychology. However, its members’ goal is to see a physical and psychological environment for Latinos in the US reflect the ideals of respect for mental health, dignity, and human and civil rights.

Is NLPA a part of APA?

No, the four ethnic minority associations of psychology have independent status. NLPA and the Asian American Psychological Association tend to meet at APA, however, the Association of Black Psychologist and the Society of Indian Psychologists have separate annual meetings.

Do I need to be a APA member to join NLPA?

No, membership is open to everyone interested in Latino Psychology, whether or not you are a member of the APA.
